It’s important to know how to set goals for yourself so that you can achieve them throughout the year and feel that you’re making progress. Here are 3 things to keep in mind.
1) Set Achievable Milestones
Create a list of milestones within your goal and the steps you’ll need to take. This way, you can reward yourself for each step and measure your progress.
For example, it’s easy to resolve to write a book over the course of the year, but not easy when it comes to starting it. Instead, set timeframes and aim for making an outline over the next few days, or completing a few chapters over the next few months. Even setting a timer for twenty minutes each evening with your writing materials open can be an achievable goal. When considering your goal, a good step can be
2) Frame it positively
Positive energy can go a long way to help you reach your goals. For example, saying “I’m want to fit into my favorite evening gown” can be positive reinforcement and help you remain excited about your results and the benefits of achieving them. However, saying “I’m aiming to lose weight” can carry a negative connotation and become a chore because you might associate it with hard work. Focusing on the positives of your goal can be more energizing than focusing on the negatives of reaching it.
3) Celebrate appropriately
When reaching milestones, it can be a great confidence boost to reward yourself. Remember, it’s important to do this the right way so that you continue your forward momentum and maintain your new habits. For example, if you hit a milestone when you’re trying to stick to a diet, try not to celebrate with too many unhealthy foods. Additionally, be sure to truly give yourself some credit for even the small goals. Every little bit counts!
