Fine lines can form and worsen because of repeated facial expressions such as smiling and frowning. As we age, these wrinkles commonly develop around the eyes and in the forehead. Dysport is an injectable treatment that creates a smoother appearance by calming the muscle contractions that cause these lines.
Dysport is an injectable that uses botulinum toxin, which is a neuromodulator. This means that it blocks the nerve signals to the muscles, temporarily stopping the wrinkle-causing contractions that occur due to facial expressions. It is a similar product to Botox.
Dysport is intended for use on the glabella lines, which are the wrinkles that form between the eyebrows and extend vertically toward the forehead. You may notice these lines if you pull your eyebrows together while frowning or scowling.
Dysport is injected into the muscles that cause glabellar lines for moderate to severe cases.
Before you receive Dysport injections, Dr. Rosenberg will determine the correct injection site to address the correct muscles. Then, patients receive a topical anesthetic to prevent unnecessary discomfort. The number of injections depends on the severity of the patient’s wrinkles, however, treatment typically can be completed in under thirty minutes.
After receiving Dysport injections, there is no downtime and patients can immediately return to normal activity if they choose. Common side effects include swelling, bruising, or itching at the injection site. It’s best to avoid strenuous activity such as exercise until the swelling subsides.
Dysport results typically last about four months. After the effects have diminished, patients may receive maintenance injections if they wish to maintain results.
To find out if Dysport is the right injectable for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Rosenberg. In some cases, treatment may be performed on the same day as your consultation if you are a good candidate.
