Ask the Doctor: How Does Kybella Work?

Many adults across the U.S. suffer from a double chin, also known as submental fullness. While some people develop a double chin over the years, others simply have one their entire life due to genetics. In the past, invasive surgery such as liposuction has been the only option to eliminate stubborn fat beneath the chin. Now, there is an injectable treatment that can permanently correct a double chin: Kybella®.

How Does Kybella® Work?

Kybella® is a prescription injectable medicine used to improve the appearance of a double chin in adults 18 years of age and older. It is made up of synthetic deoxycholic acid, a molecule that naturally occurs in the body. This medicine breaks down and absorbs dietary fat. When Kybella® is injected into submental fullness, fat cells are destroyed and can no longer store or accumulate fat. This means that results from Kybella® are long-lasting.

How is Treatment Done?

Kybella® injections are done in-office by a trained specialist. Treatment sessions are quick, only lasting about 15-20 minutes, and there is no downtime needed. Patients can return to work or other everyday activities directly after treatment. The number of injections needed will vary from patient to patient, depending on the amount of submental fullness you have and your desired outcome.

If you are located in the Lutherville, or Baltimore, MA areas and are interested in receiving Kybella® injections, contact us today to schedule your consultation.
